Dussehra is an important Hindu festival that is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm by the people all over India. According to Ramayana, Lord Rama worshipped Goddess Chandi to kill Ravana. Ravana, the ten-headed demon king of Lanka, kidnapped Rama’s wife, Sita, to avenge the humiliation of his sister Shurpanakha. Since then the festival of Dussehra is being celebrated from the day Lord Rama killed Ravana.
On this day, the effigies of Ravana, his brother Kumbhakarna and his son Meghnad are burnt. It signifies the victory of good over evil.
