National Festival
India became a Republic and adopted its own constitution on the 26th of January, 1950. Since then, 26th January is celebrated with great enthusiasm. The President of India presides over the Republic Day parade which is held in Delhi from Rajghat along the Vijay Path to mark this day. The President unfurls the National Flag and he is also given a twenty-one gun salute. There is a colorful march-past of the armed forces. Various war weapons are displayed. Cultural programmes of various states are presented. School children from various schools and folk artists also take part in the parade.
